Shelter Draft Pick is an animal welfare initiative that combines the passion of hockey with the goal of helping more shelter animals find loving homes.
Inspired by the excitement of draft day, we spotlight adoptable dogs and cats through hockey-inspired "Draft Pick" profile cards that showcase each animal's unique personality, strengths, ideal home, and direct adoption information. By presenting every animal as a worthy first-round pick, we hope to inspire fans to see shelter pets in a new light and connect them with reputable shelters and rescues.

Our Mission
Every feature directs supporters back to the shelter caring for that animal, where they can learn more, apply to adopt, donate, volunteer, or help in other meaningful ways.
Beyond adoption, Shelter Draft Pick is committed to educating communities about responsible pet ownership, animal health, and the incredible bond between people and animals. Through collaborations with veterinary professionals, shelters, athletes, and community organizations, we hope to make animal welfare more accessible, engaging, and inspiring for fans of all ages.

Meet the Founder
Hi, I'm Katie, a Canadian veterinary student with a passion for animal welfare and hockey.
Through my veterinary education and volunteer work with shelters in Canada and abroad, I've seen how many incredible animals are simply overlooked. Shelter Draft Pick was created to bring hockey and animal welfare together—using the excitement of the game to help adoptable animals gain visibility and find loving homes.
My goal is to support shelters through engaging, community-driven content that inspires adoption and promotes responsible pet ownership.
